mono. - review

Prejudice might get in the way when listening to mono. if you stick to the idea that every artist who has a major female audience is not worthy of your praise, simply because there is an idea that music marketed towards women is of less quality. Leaving that aside, mono. is the latest production by Kim Namjoon, also known as RM and the leader of Kpop band BTS.
However, mono. is surrounded by a set of sweet sounds, almost melancholic, his voice is raspy, the tempo matches the beat of a heart. Memories, love, loss and the search for identity are some of the themes he explores in this work.
A different type of rap, delicate and sharp, soft but incisive, including experiments with sounds characteristic of lofi and chillhop genres, the album is filled with sounds that transport you to the foreigners landscapes of megacities like Seoul or Tokyo, where you can either feel surrounded by too many people or terribly isolated. His message is simple: sadness exists, but at the end what saves us might be music, the possibility that there is always something new to discover and love.
